  • Poland is beginning its nuclear energy journey and aims to partner with Ukraine, a nation renowned for its advanced nuclear safety solutions and expertise.
  • Ukraine’s extensive experience, including recent cooperation with the United States on new reactor technologies, positions it as a valuable ally for Poland’s nuclear development.
  • Experts highlight that collaboration in nuclear energy is a highly promising avenue for strengthening ties between Poland and Ukraine while ensuring the success and safety of Poland’s nuclear power infrastructure.

Poland is embarking on a significant journey to establish its own network of nuclear power plants, and a strategic partnership with Ukraine could play a pivotal role in this endeavor. According to Krzysztof Paturej, President of the Board at the International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security (ICCSS), such collaboration between Kyiv and Warsaw holds immense promise, particularly in the field of nuclear safety.

While Poland plans to acquire nuclear reactors from the United States and build its nuclear safety infrastructure from the ground up, Ukraine offers a wealth of expertise in this sphere. Paturej highlighted that Ukraine is recognized for its innovative solutions in nuclear safety, control technologies, and regulatory mechanisms. These advancements have garnered international respect, with Western countries already utilizing Ukrainian know-how. In his view, Warsaw stands to benefit greatly from forming a strategic partnership with Kyiv, leveraging Ukraine’s advanced capabilities and extensive experience.

The significance of Ukraine’s expertise is further underscored by the statement of Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko. He reaffirmed Kyiv’s readiness to assist Warsaw in developing its nuclear power industry, emphasizing that Ukraine’s skilled professionals and substantial experience could provide invaluable support. Recent agreements between Ukraine and the United States further illustrate Ukraine’s contributions to the global nuclear sector. As American companies work on developing new reactor technologies, they are actively incorporating Ukrainian advancements into their designs.

Paturej expressed confidence that collaboration in the field of nuclear energy represents the most promising direction for Polish-Ukrainian cooperation. As Poland builds its nuclear infrastructure, partnering with Ukraine offers a unique opportunity to accelerate progress and enhance safety, ensuring the success of Poland’s nuclear ambitions while fostering closer ties between the two nations.
